The Director of Civic Engagement will organize programs and projects identified by the Civic Engagement Advisory Board to enhance the University’s Civic Engagement agenda.

  • Disseminate and coordinate information about IAS and UWB partnership opportunities through workshops, site visits, and resource materials.

Requirements:
Master’s degree and at least two (2) years of full-time professional experience working with community-based organizations or other organizations housing community-engagement initiatives, preferably in volunteer management, and/or university academic student services.  Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to function well in diverse settings with diverse stakeholders.  Demonstrated ability to take initiative, think creatively, and follow through on multiple projects simultaneously.

ASSISTANT DIRECTOR/INTERNSHIP COORDINATOR
CAREER SERVICES

RESPONSIBILITIES:             

Reporting to the Director, the Assistant Director/Internship Coordinator will: 1) Administer all aspects of the College’s internship program including cultivating and maintaining relationships with department Faculty Internship Coordinators, communicating regularly with key constituents to collaborate and communicate internship policies and procedures college-wide, and regularly update all internship program policies, procedures, and related documents and maintain related internship program records and databases; 2) Advise undergraduate and graduate students from all majors on internship related issues and career development issues and provide walk-in advising for all students and alumni, as scheduled; 3) Regularly update and present the College’s Internship Workshop mandatory for all students pursuing internships for academic credit, present other workshops on various career related topics and contribute to the development of and present workshops, as needed; 4) Collaborate with team members, faculty and student organizations to plan, publicize and implement internship, career and industry-related programs, panels, speakers, workshops, site visits and events to help educate constituents about career options and industry trends and connections to industry professionals and organizations; 5) Coordinate bi-annual Internship Fair and collaborate with team members to develop, implement and/or assist with other major Career Services initiatives; 6) Cultivate and maintain relationships with alumni, faculty, student organizations, Emerson College staff, and other constituents to support advising and programming efforts; 7) Maintain listservs and career resources for career library and Web site; 8) Contribute to the leadership and development of the team; and 9) Assist with other duties as needed. 

QUALIFICATIONS:  

Master’s degree in Higher Education, Counseling, Human Resources or related field. Two years experience in Career Services, college relations or related field preferred.  Experience with databases (FileMaker, etc.), Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint), Career Services vendor products, preferred.  Knowledge of Strong Interest Inventory, MBTI and/or other assessment instruments and experience in/knowledge of arts and/or communications career fields preferred.  Excellent oral and written communication skills.  Solid presentation and public speaking skills.  Strategic planning and decision-making skills.  Must be self-motivated and detail oriented.

ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF PRACTICUM EXPERIENCES

2nd REPOSTING - Job #998255: This full-time position in the College of Pharmacy has the responsibility for developing educational opportunities at all national and international practicum sites for Bachelor of Science in the Pharmaceutical Sciences (BSPS) majors. The BSPS program has students majoring in pharmacy administration, pharmaceutics, pharmacology & toxicology, and medicinal & biological chemistry. The BSPS program currently enrolls 65-70 students per year, and has aspirations to increase enrollment to approximately 90 students per year. The primary responsibility for the Assistant Director of Practicum Experience is to cultivate and retain practicum sites for the program. This will include: identifying, developing, and retaining adequate numbers of suitable of practicum sites within retail and hospital pharmaceutical services, in health care administration, in the pharmaceutical and biotechnological industry, and within government and academic research labs; ensuring that the site will provide a quality educational experience to our students; conducting site visits at practicum sites to evaluate the site, provide guidance about the educational experience and to assist in assessment of student performance.  Previous applicants do not need to reapply and have already been considered.

A successful candidate must hold a minimum of a bachelor’s degree and have 5 years of relevant professional experience in management of experiential education and student placement, pharmacy management and health care administration, or human resources involved with co-op/internship programs. The salary range for this position is $38,000 - $42,000 per year, plus full benefits.

The American University Career Center is seeking an energetic and highly skilled professional to advise graduate students in the School for International Service (SIS) who are seeking internships in Washington D.C., elsewhere in the country or overseas, as well as providing pre-departure briefings for international internships. The School for International Service at American University provides students with a challenging education, supplying students with the skills needed to deal effectively with emerging issues and complexities in international affairs through eight fields of study, and within a vibrant and diverse community of students from all 50 states and 150 countries.
